Facial Photorejuvenation with Laser

 What is photorejuvenation?

The process of improving the skin color and texture through the use of light energy is known as Photorejuvenation.

Photo=light; rejuvenate=to make younger so Photorejuvenation=the process of making one look younger, using light.

Light energy in its different forms can be modified to achieve this effect.

Photorejuvenation FAQ

What is the difference between lasers and pulsed light such as ipl?

Lasers and Pulsed Light e.g. IPL, FPL etc are, technically, different forms of light energy. Simply put, in Laser the light is made extremely narrow and intense. This intensity can be varied to do various functions at different depths of the skin, depending on its wave lengths; whereas in Pulsed Light technology, a broad spectrum of powerful light of different wave lengths is rectified with unique fillers to produce light of specific wave lengths to penetrate the skin to various depths as needed.

 Which is better?

One is not better than the other. Both these technologies can produce equally wonderful results in photorejuvenation. Research studies have shown equally good results with both Laser and Pulsed Light. However, laser treatments hold a slight advantage in that it takes fewer treatment sessions to achieve the same effect. Also, conditions such as deep pigmentation require treatment of higher intensity and therefore respond better to laser.

Is pulsed light eg ipl safer than laser?

Not necessarily, both of these modalities of light are capable of undesirable effects if used incorrectly or by untrained operators. In the hands of professional qualified operators eg doctors both of these methods are equally safe.

 What can laser photorejuvenation do?

Photorejuvenation of the face produces smoother, even-toned, more youthful skin by removing fine facial wrinkling, brown pigmentation or freckles caused by sun damage, small broken blood vessels of the face and redness from rosacea and flushing.

 How does laser photorejuvenation work?

The light energy is transformed into heat energy in the deeper layer of the skin where it stimulates formation of new collagen. This new collagen helps to erase fine lines and wrinkles and gives facial skin a more youthful glowing texture.

 Is laser photorevejunation painful?

The treatment is only mildly uncomfortable, often described as feeling like a rubber band snapping against the skin. Additionally we apply a topical anesthetic cream one hour before treatment. This ensures that your experience is comfortable.

What about down time or recovery time?

After the treatment you can go back to the office or home. You could even attend a party the same evening. There is therefore NO DOWN TIME. A little redness of the skin is common immediately after treatment, but this usually disappears in an hour or so.

 How many treatments are required?

A series of five treatments are usually scheduled. Each treatment takes about an hour to perform and treatments are three to four weeks apart. Improvement is noticeable straightaway, but it continues with progressive treatments and the majority of people will achieve their desired effect after five treatments.

Can the same results be obtained with microdermabrasion or chemical peels?

No, Peels and dermabrasion are less intense forms of treatment which primarily stimulate the exfoliation of dead skin cells on the surface as well as clear blocked pores and oil glands. However Laser Photorejuvenation goes deeper, lasts longer and can be combined with microdermabrasion for better results.

How to obtain the best results from laser photorejuvenation?

In addition to a healthy life-style, to maximize the effects of photorejuvenation, we strongly recommend the use of special skin care products or cosmeceuticals. These are products that combine dermatological and pharmacological properties which enhance and maintain the effects of photorejuvenation.
