Chemical Peels

A Chemical Peel treatment causes the regeneration of new cells to occur at a faster rate than they would normally as an adult. Many unique and effective chemical peeling agents are available today. Superficial peels involve the proper application of certain mild fruit acids like AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids - the most common ones being Glycolic, Lactic and Citric acids), B.H.A. (Beta Hydroxy Acids - such as Salicylic acid) and combinations of the above (such as the modified Jessner solution) to the skin to rid the upper layers of accumulated dead skin cells and kill the bacteria in the pores that cause acne.

Deep chemical peels are almost extinct in modern aesthetic practice, replaced by Laser facial rejuvenation. The advantages are minimal discomfort and down time (recovery time). Despite chemical peels declining in popularity, the modified Jessner peel (such as the PCA Peel) is still commonly used in aesthetic practice to treat acne, sun-caused hyperpigmentation, and smoker's skin (dull and laden with dead cells).


The Modified Jessner Peel

Due to its unique concoction of salicylic acid (great for comedones) mixed with a gentler form of AHA (lactic acid) and 'lighteners' such as Hydroquinone and Kojic acid, the modern day modified Jessner solution (from PCA Clinical Skin Care) can return skin to its former glory. Due to salicylic acid's ability to dissolve into oil-filled follicles, blackheads and whiteheads are easily loosened. It is also and excellent choice for Asian patients with acne.

After every peel, acne patients, for example, can expect re-texturisation of the skin. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is also greatly lightened, in some cases, even disappearing completely. Overall, one can expect a smoother and brighter complexion, decreased sebum activity (less oiliness), and a correction of uneven skin tone. We remove tattoos by using the Q switch ND Yag laser. Black and red tattoos are easy to remove but green ones are difficult. When you come to the clinic we will first assess the size and depth of the tattoo and then a quotation as to the cost is given. If you agree we will apply anaesthetic cream and wait for 30 minutes or so. The tatooo removal may take as little as 3 to as many as 8 sessions depending on the type of ink and depth of the tattoo.
